A floating forum (Moodleoverflow) is a non-linear, non-chronological discussion forum. Similar to regular forum activity, but focuses on direct question and answer discussions.

In addition, users can rate posts and receive rating scores from other users. Users who have started a discussion can mark an answer as helpful; and teachers can mark a post as a (correct) solution to the question posed.

Ratings: If a post is rated up or down, the post owner's rating score increases or decreases. A user's rating score is always displayed after the username. In the settings, you can define what effect a down or up vote will have on the user's image. Posts with a high rating are displayed higher than posts with a low rating. A post that is marked as helpful or solved will increase the post owner's rating.

Posts can be marked as helpful (orange) by the question originator or as solved (green) by a teacher. The current post is marked in blue. Additionally, everyone can vote posts up or down. The post is sorted by the number of votes. The post can be edited by the poster within 30 minutes after posting. Teachers can edit and delete posts indefinitely.

To add a floating forum, activate editing on the course website, click "Add an activity or resource" in the desired unit and select the "Moodleoverflow" menu.
